Rules:
D + number indicates the number of faces on the die. 1 D10 is a ten sided die, 1 D4 is a four sided die, and so on.
Step 1: Roll 1 D10 to dictate which square to activate
Step 2:Roll 1 D10 to find the place in that square to mark make
Step 3: Roll 1 D6 to determine the angle in which the mark will be made*
*This die has a chaos symbol on it. I chose to scribble when I received this symbol.
*This die also has a circular hexagonal symbol. I chose to create a carefully applied mark when I received this symbol.
Step 4: Roll 1 D4 to determine if I were to use a positive image area or mask out a negative space
The positive space was created using various kinds of greasy lithographic drawing pencils. The masking agent was gum arabic.
Step 5: Roll 1 D4 to indicate the thickness or thinness of the line drawn or masked
Step 6: If mark making was determined by Step 4, roll 1 D10 to determine which kind of lithographic drawing material to be used
This operation was intended to incorporate the use of numbers three, six and nine. This determination was based around the Holy Trinity incorporating the concepts of mind, body & soul, and birth, life & death.
You may have noticed that the numbers in the square used to dictate position of marks being made is not the regular sequential series of 1-9. This square is known as a magic square. This is oriented by each row and column adding up to the same number. For example, 2 + 7 + 6 = 15 (row 1) 2 + 9 + 4 = 15 (column 1) and so on.
